One of the key words being discussed at the moment amongst Voluntary Sector organisations who provide care and advocacy services is 'personalisation'.

If you haven't heard of it, the basic principle is that individuals who require care services previously delivered by local authorities, will receive an individual budget allowing them to choose which services they wish to purchase, and from whom.

Meetings are often criticised because:

• There is no clear objective for the meeting or the participants
• There is no agenda
• Poor planning and lack of management/control means that the meeting goes off-track
• There are too many people, or not the right people
• There is a lack of preparation (by the leader AND the participants)
• There are too many interruptions
• No decisions are taken, no actions are agreed
